HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!! For all f you out there the best wishes. Make 2008 a year to remember and be nice to the people that you see around you.
DRM is not gone full speed, but it's empire is collapsing rapidly, 3 down, 1 to go. Warner Music Ditches DRM on Amazon, Stock Struggles Above $6
It's not significant enough to go down in the history books, once every recordlabel/rightsowner has dropped DRM what will go down in the history books of the music bizz is the rise in sales. My predictions for 2008:
1. DRM free music from all 4 majors
2. Music for FREE will be less of a hype and business will go back to business as usual
3. A busy M&A year in the music business (Independent labels merging, DSP's working more together etc)
4. i Tunes will lose dominant market share and Amazon will gain big time
5. 99ct a track will no longer be the standard
6. Lots of people will get sacked at the majors and new young talented people (under 25) will get into corner offices
7. Copyright laws will change and adapt to today's requirements (fair use)
8. At least 5.000 new Digital Music Experiences will see the light
9. Digital Video/film will break through
10. Guy Hands will become a rockstar or popidol
I hope and actually think you might be right. Too late for me, but then again, it's never too late ;). A very belated, but well meant happy new year to you as well!
