Apple has recently questioned the accuracy of a negative iTunes sales assessment by Forrester Research. Among other things, the report pointed to low per-iPod sales levels and a sizeable 65 percent drop in monthly purchases during the first half. Report author Josh Bernoff noted that some seasonal drops could be happening, and warned against drawing any firm conclusions. "With only two years of full data, it is too soon to tell if this decline was seasonal, or if buyers were reaching their saturation level for digital music," Bernoff said. But the report characterizes the iTunes Store as a marginal revenue contributor, and outlines a negative sales momentum. "iTunes won’t save the music business, or Apple," Bernoff flatly asserted. >> Digital Music News
