Ringtone Space Evolves, Players Ponder What's Next

Despite being a four billion dollar industry, ringtones remain a highly volatile space. Overnight successes like the Crazy Frog reflect an unpredictable customer base, though certain trends are beginning to emerge. Perhaps the biggest evolution comes in the actual quality of tones, with Informa predicting that master ringtones will completely dominate by 2010. That has strengthened the relationship between carriers and major labels, who effectively consolidate the licensing process for both the master recording and underlying composition. It is also starting to squeeze third party content providers like Zingy and Moderati, who are now exploring greater niche plays involving indie tones and smaller carrier relationships.>> Digital music news

Making a movie about freedom and friendship

Gotshrimp >> In the last two weeks we have worked on a very special movie project. Gathering a team from Australia, the Netherlands and the UK makes it an international project and soon we will disclose the subject to all. We have had a lot of bad luck. Imagine having shot a movie on 16mm, 15 years ago, having almost 9 hours of original footage and no experience in setting up a movie project. Our first issue was the investors pulled out because they coudn't handle our wish to make this a class 'A' film instead of a quick and dirty money maker. Our second issue was digitising the material and setting up our own film lab. We had a great time thanks to the support of people that know how to set up post production facilities and have no dollar signs in their eyes. Thanks 'Rene', 'Duco', 'Bart', 'Applestore MAC house' and 'Josh' for a significant contribution!! We now have a Apple powerbook and 1TGB la Cie harddrive with all the footage in original and compressed format. This together with a good project set-up in FCP enables us to select 'the gold' out of the 9hours of footage in low resolution and re connect to the original media once finished. Soon we will know what else we need to make this 'real life saga' a blockbuster amongst those who celebrate freedom and friendship and respect each other on the basis of love and self esteem.

At first this was the discussion about betamax versus VHS, me a child at the time coudn't be bothered, but today it's a topic we need to address again. And again commercial interests win from what it should be about: A fucking nice quality standard that provides a magic experience.
